Creating your listing
Please read this carefully!
A successful directory listing depends on YOU!
Just pasting your marketing blurb from another listing or from your website won’t impress the search engines. You need to create an original piece of content - and THAT is what will make all the difference.
How do I achieve this? It is important to remember that your most important readers are probably Google’s “bots” or “spiders”. They are interested in what your keywords are and how often you use them. That is how Google decides whether your site is relevant to a particular search.
So you can make your listing as effective as possible by including your keywords frequently.
Don’t worry about beautiful prose – just pack your content with keywords. You should aim for your main keywords to make up 5% each of the total words – er…within reason!
But it isn’t just Google that is interested in the keywords – it is also the human “searcher”. If someone has searched for “magician in Warwickshire” then “magician” and “Warwickshire” are going to draw the person’s eye too!
How do I decide what my Keywords are? Write a list of all of the following:
- all your products and/or all your services.
- all the different types of party you provide for
- all the age groups e.g. teenagers, toddlers, under 5s
- any other unique selling point e.g. you are CRB checked, your products are ethical, fair-trade, your cakes are nut free, gluten free etc.
- all the characters/ brands that you stock – lots of people search for e.g. Dora the Explorer tableware, Little Mermaid, Spiderman, Hello Kitty etc.
- all the counties, districts, towns that you cover (people may search for Watford but not Hertfordshire)
- anything else you think your potential customers may search for
Now the hard bit is to try and incorporate all this into some kind of elegant listing. You can have lists, but use sentences too.
A couple of useful tips:
- Never use “etc.” as it implies you have left keywords out. Google’s spiders can’t infer anything!
- If you use the words “we” or “our” replace them with the name of your business. It’s a keyword!
- If you are going to list under a particular category e.g. “children at weddings”, make sure this is a keyword too.
The great thing with childrens party directory is that your listing can be as long as you like. It is a whole web page just for you. Make the most of it!
Also important to remember is that your listing content should be original. Google doesn’t like duplication, so please don’t just cut and paste a submission from somewhere else on the web or even a chunk of text from your own website. It won’t work.
